Beachfront Cottage

Our clients owned a lovely beachfront property, but the cottage was run down and too small for their family. Instead of rebuilding, we designed and built a major renovation that added a second floor while preserving and restoring the original style of cottage. The result is a cozy and welcoming space that still feels intimate despite the added square footage
Context, Issues, & Goals
Nestled in Gimli and right on the beach, this property was special to our clients, but the cottage was too small for their family and was in need of repairs, updates, and new life.

Solution/Design
We looked at the possibility of building a new cottage, but the cost was prohibitive. After discussing their needs and getting a sense of their style and taster, we started sketching renovation options that weren't tear-downs and could build upon the existing structure.
Final Project
We came up with a design that involved a major addition of square footage while essentially preserving the existing aesthetic of the cottage. This involved adding a second story using a gambrel roof that added significant square footage while maintaining the cozy, welcoming, and familiar look and feel.
