This house has proudly stood for a century and was being passed from one generation to the next. It was ready for an update that would improve its energy performance and meet the demands of a modern family with sophisticated taste. The contemporary additions on the original home will make the house ready for the next 100 years.

This project went as far as a deep energy retro-fit can go. The clients had inspiring aspirations in terms of final energy performance, unique design elements and being carbon conscious about the entire project.

This project posed several significant challenges. A very tight workspace, an existing addition that was not salvageable, and some significant structural reinforcing of the original brick house. 

As always, we made sure that even though we were adding square footage we were also increasing the overall energy efficiency of the home. The end result is an inspiring space that will be the hub of an amazing, creative family’s home.

A designer kitchen that is not just for show! The owners of this home had a really clear vision of what they needed from their space and the results speak for themselves.

Features include face frame cabinets, lime paint on the walls and beautiful wooden eating area made with landfill diverted elm from the lovely folks at Urban Lumber.

Roost doesn’t normally work outside of the city, but we made an exception for some special clients with a special project in the historic lake-side town of Gimli, Manitoba.

The floor structure of the original cottage remained, but not much else. The client had great design ideas and we enjoyed making sure that it all came together to create a cozy space where you can’t help but relax and breathe a little deeper.

This project gave us the opportunity to put our commitment to energy efficiency and craft on full display. This represents what we feel should be the standard for new construction. It’s one of the most energy efficient homes in Manitoba and contains some beautiful custom details.
