River Heights Kitchen

We were approached about repairing and adapting an original carriage extension into a new kitchen extension. After discovering we couldn't convert the carriage extension, we worked with our clients to plan, design, and build a new gorgeous, bright, and spacious kitchen extension.
Context, Issues, & Goals
Our clients were very well educated in regards to deep energy retrofits and had clear performance targets they hoped to achieve when retrofitting this house. They also had a clear sense of how the house was not providing for their needs, and brought strong and well-developed aesthetic preferences to the table. Both of these formed the basis for the design process.

Solution/Design
After further exploration, we discovered that the carriage house structure could not be responsibly saved, and we shifted gears to focus on a new brand new structure that would add usable and aesthetic space and reduce cooling and heating costs in the home.
Final Project
As per our deisn, we removed the original carriage house addition and built an entirely new addition in its place. This structure features a large skylight in the banked ceiling of the spacious kitchen and adds a new rear sitting/living/gallery space.
