What does it mean for Roost to build better people spaces?

It starts with a conversation.

Most of our jobs start with a meeting between prospective clients and Myron. It’s his job to listen to what people have in mind for their projects, what concerns they’re trying to address and what budgetary goals they have. Some people come with a fully drawn set of plans, others come with only the knowledge that something needs to change.  This first meeting gives clients the chance to get to know more about Roost and see if working together feels like a good fit.  A successful project depends on a great relationship between client and contractor. This is where it begins.

Re-imagining possibilities

One of our biggest priorities is ensuring that what we build makes sense for people’s lives. Jaron, our spatial guru, is really good at helping people think through priorities and has an infectious enthusiasm for all the potential possibilities. Conversations between him and customers form an integral part of the creative design process, revealing how people’s spaces can serve them in new and exciting ways. For us that means paying very little attention to current fads and instead focusing meaningfully on improving people’s lives. We believe that we are all affected and shaped by the spaces in which we live. We want to create spaces that actively contribute to people’s daily lives and overall well-being.

Quality in all aspects

Roost does all the work on site from forming the foundation to installing custom millwork. This ensures that everything is done to our standard and it allows customers to get to know the people that are working on their home. This gives them peace of mind, and allows us to work as efficiently as possible. We’ve come to understand that quality is more than just a great finished product, it is also about process and human relationships. It continues to amaze us how many people comment, not only on the work itself, but the people who did the work. They are relieved and grateful that everyone was so nice. Some even claim to miss us after we’re done! We’ve worked hard to build a team that takes tremendous pride in their work, show prodigious respect for people’s homes and genuinely enjoys working together.

Building for the next generation

It goes without saying that we want our clients to be satisfied at the end of each project. But we want more than that. We want future generations to look at our work and know that we were building with them in mind. This means evaluating every project through the lens of energy efficiency, and environmental impact. For renovations, this can mean considering some fairly simple things like the air sealing and insulation in the areas of the home where we are working. For new construction, it means designing for future energy efficiency standards rather than being satisfied with the standards of today. It means looking at Passive House and Net Zero requirements. It means getting 3rd party blower door testing to check and measure air tightness. Most of all it means continually educating ourselves and looking for ways that our practice can be improved.
